Preserving the Beauty of a Diamond Engagement Ring Tips

Have a diamond engagement ring? Here are some tips of how to take care of it.

Watch out for snags on sweaters or anything. The sudden snag can pull at the prongs around the diamond making it possible for the diamond to fall out.
Be sure to remove the diamond ring while taking a shower. Soap will cause a cloudiness over the diamond, and reduce sparkle.

Store diamond engagement rings in a cloth lined ring holder such as those found in jewelry boxes. You may also store safely a diamond engagement ring in the original box in which it came.

Use common sense while cleaning, cooking, and other household chores. Don’t wear it. If dust, dirt or grime builds up on the ring the shine and sparkles will leave.

Once per month soak a diamond engagement ring in one part ammonia and three parts cold water for 1/2 hour, then clean it as normal. Never extend this cleaning time past 1/2 hour.

Avoid direct contact with a diamond engagement ring such as “directly touching the diamond.” Believe it or not even the oil on your fingers can discolor the ring.

Warranties usually come with expensive diamond engagement rings. If it states for a jeweler to inspect the ring, do so. Sometimes it is once a month for a professional inspection. A professional eye can do wonders for keeping your diamond engagement ring looking as good as it did the first time it was slipped on your finger.

It is a good idea to purchase insurance coverage for an expensive or cherished diamond engagement ring. To help you with insuring the ring get the diamond certified by a licensed jeweler. A certification from a licensed jeweler also helps in retrieving your ring if it is lost or stolen.

Once a month cleaning with a soft toothbrush and a lint-free cloth keeps dirt and grime away. After careful cleaning lay it out on a lint-free cloth for drying.

If you follow these helpful tips, you will enjoy the beauty of your diamond engagement ring for years to come or at least until it is time to buy another one……
